WWD 081 arrives just as the hype for Miami hits a maximum. Joining us on the latest edition of the podcast is Toolroom Records central figure Weiss. We caught up with the House maestro just before he embarks on a US Tour (check out the full list of dates below). He rinses sixty minutes full of dingers with cuts from Billy Kenny, Walker & Royce, Will Clarke and, of course, himself. Get it on the system!

WWD: Where in the world are you right now? What’s been on the agenda today?

I’m in the U.K. right now but getting ready to head off on my two and half week U.S.! I’m starting the tour in Miami for the WMC. Basically I’m getting everything music wise ready for the tour including finishing off two new tracks I want to test out!

WWD: You’re off on your US Tour very soon. What’s the first thing going in the suitcase?

Flip Flops and sun cream.

WWD: We enjoyed the story of super fan & DJ Stefan from Italy punching the club owner! It had our HQ in discussion. What’s the most mental thing you’ve seen on tour in recent times?

I once saw a couple having sex in the back room at Ministry of sound. I wont go into too much detail but during the antics another girl decided to join in halfway through!! HAHA!

WWD: Miami is an early stop-off for you. Is Miami Music week still relevant for getting business done or has it descended into pure party territory?

It’s definitely a good place for getting business done. I go there mainly for that. It’s a great place to meet up with people that you’ve been emailing over time and to put a face to the discussions. This is a business at the end of the day so needs to be treated in that way.

WWD: New single ‘You Better Run’ is out very soon. How did your approach to this track differ from the very first Weiss release way back when?

I was playing around in the studio with different various chords and came up with that while writing on top of the vocal I had. After a few different attempts it all just fell into place.

WWD: You smashed it with Weiss City at Egg recently. Where do you hope to take it over the next year?

We’re currently in discussions about wanting to take it all over the world. At the moment we are talking about taking it to Beirut and over to America at some point. We’re still building the brand and want the put the Weiss City night into the right clubs.

WWD: Looking forward to the summer. Will we see yourself and the Toolroom crew back on the white isle?

I think Toolroom are looking for the right venue right now but Mark Knight and myself are doing a night… I can’t say who for or when yet but we’ll definitely be there… Watch this space!
