“The Netherlands has a rich undergroud heritage… it’s thriving over here right now”
WWD: Hey Franky, it’s good to have a chat with you today! Where are you in the world right now? And what have you been up to recently?
FR: Right now I’m back in Manchester for a show. I was here last in September for the Warehouse project, so it’s nice to be back again. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio lately, working on remixes and some new original material too, which will be dropping early next year.
WWD: Nice we’ll look forward to them! So we’ve heard you’ve got a few big things coming up, one of them being your upcoming release on Joris Voorn’s Rejected! We’ve heard the A Side, and it is a certified groover, (we won’t give anymore away!) so how did that release come about?
FR: Well Joris is a huge inspiration for me both as a producer and DJ, so it was a huge honour to be invited onto the label. I had actually made the track last year, and it had been sitting in my finished folder for a while before I sent it over to Joris. He had been playing some remixes of mine in the summer, so I decided to send it. He loved it and started playing it out.

WWD: Now then Franky could you tell us a bit about the FLOW brand that you’re heavily involved in? We love the weekly radioshows, and that NYE lineup is big! What’s coming next for the FLOW brand?
FR: I started FLOW as a weekly radio show a few years back, and it’s just kind of been a natural evolution into a party brand. The show was originally only ever recorded in Dutch, but this year I decided to start recording the show in English – this lead to me having a few guest shows on Rinse FM in London, and now I’m having the show syndicated worldwide from next year. On the party side we’re putting together more shows for next year, so keep an eye out for lineups dropping soon!
WWD: Wicked stuff Rinse is one of our favourites! In terms of the bigger picture, you yourself hail from the Netherlands, and of course play there quite regularly. So we wanted to ask: how is the underground electronic music/clubbing scene doing over there?
FR: The Netherlands has a rich underground heritage, contrary to what some people may believe. There are some amazing clubs like Toffler in Rotterdam, and festivals like Straf_werk & Extrema. The underground is thriving over here right now.

WWD: That’s what we like to hear! Now although producing tracks and DJing to audiences are completely different, both skills go hand in hand in today’s scene. Between the two of them, which would you say you prefer and why?
FR: I get satisfaction from both. There’s nothing like producing a track in the day time, and playing it out in the club that very same night.
WWD: Sure we bet! Now a big one to finish on: if you could collaborate with one artist on a track, who would you go for?
FR: Nils Frahm.
WWD: And if you could go back to back with one DJ – at any venue in the world – who would you go for?
FR: It would definitely have to be Luciano.
WWD: Nice! Thanks for chatting to us today Franky!
FR: My pleasure!
