Cirque Magique – Magical Circus. In Ledegem, Belgium, an enchanting experience awaits, one who’s ethos is based on fun and games, with a pertinent focus on house and techno. Immersive and definitely intriguing, it’s hard not to get excited. Critics out there might argue that the frills and add ons of circus acts and firebreathers are, simply, a way of selling tickets to the more musically uneducated party goers. But they’d be wrong, utterly wrong, because this lineup isn’t for the posers. It’s one that features some of the most respected artists in truly underground techno.
So we’ve done you a favour, and whittled down the top three acts we think you should go and see at this years Cirque Magique. Check it out below!
Oscar Mulero
Proper, underground techno. No prisoners, no apologies, the Spaniard’s talent behind the decks is second to none. Chief of PoleGroup, the label has been frequented by some of the scenes most respected producers, and continues to put out content that’s as boundary pushing as it is dance inducing. With an upcoming showcase at London’s very own Corsica Studios, featuring label mainstay Lewis Fautzi, there’s plenty occurring in the PoleGroup scene. So, without question, we’d recommend you watch his set. The man is a force to be reckoned with.
DVS1
Not that nationality means anything, but here we have our first American to make the list. Berghain resident, Zak Khutorestky has been around the block, honing his craft in the 90’s rave scene. With productions ranging from dark and driving, to soft and serene, his take on techno is far reaching, and is certainly palatable for any techno fan. If you’re not familiar, we’d suggest listening to his ‘Black Russian’ EP, in particular the rolling number ‘Creepin’. It won’t disappoint.
Ben Sims b2b Truncate
Two titans, two talents. From Essex to Los Angeles, this pairing have forged a formidable reputation behind the decks. An all night long back to back at The Pickle Factory in 2016 saw their take on techno in an intimate club setting. Fast forward a year, and the two were playing together at Movement festival, on RA’s Underground stage, in the home of techno: Detroit. Two characters, two great personalities, and a chemistry that oozes straight through to ravers.
