Etruria Beat celebrates the 50th release on the label with a special pack of remixes of its first release, which was released back in 2010! After 8 years they have given a new life to 7 O’Clock the first track from Luca Agnelli on his own label. They have chosen four different artists to give different shades of techno to the track. One of the fathers of techno, Dj Rush, the industrial-laced techno of Lithuanian Under Black Helmet, the warm, pumping sounds of Swedish artist Mikael Jonasson’s and lastly Luca Agnelli himself with his distinct, powerful style. You can listen to the full premiere of Luca Agnelli very own remix while reading the cool interview we did for him.
WWD: Hi Luca, how are you? How’s your year been to date as we approach the end of 2018?
Hi, I’m fine thanks! Well, it has been a great and interesting year! I’ve played some amazing gigs at both fantastic festivals and very cool clubs, mostly in Europe and South America. It has been also a super year in terms of productions, remixes and of course for my label Etruria!
WWD: You’re set to release the 50th EP on your label Etruria Beat later this month, with When We Dip premiering your remix of your own track ‘7 O’Clock’. Can you tell us more about your new interpretation of the track and why you chose to re-visit the release for the 50th EP in particular?
The 50th EP of Etruria is a celebration, an important reached goal for me. I didn’t have to think much to decide on remixing 7 O’Clock as it was my very first release on my own label. Not only because it was the first one and the beginning of our journey, but mostly because the people loved it and I thought it would be an interesting idea to give this release a new life whilst also making it more “contemporary” for my current personal tastes.
WWD: You’ve enlisted some big names to join you, with DJ Rush, Under Black Helmet and Mikael Jonasson all contributing remixes. Why did you select them in particular and how happy are you with their final remixes?
I selected these artists because I like their productions, I play their music! Dj Rush is an icon, and one of the fathers of techno. Under Black Helmet is one of my favourite artists of recent years with his dark and powerful sound, and Mikael Jonasson has a particular sound that I thought was perfect for it. And yes… they all did a fantastic job with my original! I am so happy about each single remix, we created an amazing 50th release!
WWD: Etruria has also welcomed material from the likes of Diego Amura, Cosmic TRG and Electric Rescue, plus from Ben Sims, Setaoc Mass and Oliver Deutschmann this year alone. What’s next? Any big projects that we can expect over the coming months or in early 2019?
Yes, it’s also been an important year for Etruria. We did a good job getting the right inspiration with interesting sounds, and we are of course working to keep on this constructive path in 2019. We’ll release our annual compilation Elements2 at the end of December including artists like Deep Dimension, Blicz, Bastinov, Dast, Bec, Hush & Sleep, Alex Bilancini, Valentino and myself. Then the New Year will begin with a new EP by Russian artist Tayut Ogni aka Nocow, who has just released on Len Faki’s label Figure and on Rekids with his new album, which will also include a remix from myself. To follow we will have EPs planned with Hush & Sleep, Alignment, Alex Bilancini and me… and a host of other surprises!
WWD: You’ve also had another huge year with remixes of Mark Broom on PTT, Mikael Jonasson on Suara and the Micronauts on Micronautics, plus further material on Drumcode your stand out Raveolution EP on Etruria – picking up support from a range of artists from Charlotte de Witte and Amelie Lens through to Ilario Alicante, Carl Cox and Adam Beyer in the process. How do you make sure that you stay prolific in the studio whilst touring all year round?
Ahaha! Well, it is not always as easy! But you know, I often start my tracks while travelling as I am often inspired by the energy of the night before and therefore while travelling to the next destination I create the base and foundations of my new productions. Then, when I am back in studio, I develop and finalise them!
WWD: Lastly, where can we look to catch you over the coming weeks?
I will back to Amnesia in Milano on 7th Dec, followed by Sub Zero in Reutingen on 22nd Dec, Industrial Copera in Malaga 24th Dec, Cocoon Riccione on 25th Dec and Industrie Musicali in Lecce on New Year’s Eve.
I’ll then start the New Year at Fuoriorario Cosmo in Roma on NYD, before returning to Germany on 11th January to play at Artheather in Koln 11 Jan, plus many others 🙂 I am sure we will have fun! See you there scatenatiiiii!!
