WWD: So what’s been going on in the world of Soul Button?

Same lifestyle for the past 8 years – constantly working, producing and traveling. It’s hard to find that balance between work and rest but I’m trying. Unfortunately, it’s hard to change how my brain is wired as I’m always thinking about the next project or idea to develop. I did, however, finish my very first album!

WWD: Tell us how the album began to take shape? Was there an initial goal of writing an album from the beginning or did this happen organically?

The part that I dislike the most in the music business is when the creativity of a musician is limited by the market. This is what’s been happening for years – most of the young producers are trying to make exactly what is popular or in demand. With this album, my goal was to make something without any limitations, without the thought of the business side of making music. I made 12 tracks which I truly enjoyed making and producing. I sat in my studio feeling free to do whatever I wanted which is actually the main concept of the album – feeling free.

WWD: Tell us more about the album concept?

Well, everyone who knows me well, knows that I’m a rebel. I’m against everything that limits our freedom and I believe we live in a world where people are not aware anymore of how much we are bound by the system. So I wanted to make an album which is an ode to freedom. I wrote the lyrics of the track “Imagine To Be Free” when I was 20, exactly 23 years ago. I want everyone to listen to that track intently, absorb and think.

WWD: How difficult was it finding the right artists to collaborate with and bring some of these ideas to life?

It was very difficult because the really good ones are very busy. But in the end, I opted for my favorite way, which is not so known or popular but incredibly good and talented.

WWD: How did you end up with the final track selection and how did you go about cutting stuff out?

It was a long process. I kept selecting, trashing and rewriting for months. Then one day I told myself, ok whatever you want to do, the album has to be ready on this specific day. From that moment, I started to stress my friends out, asking to check, listen to this and that. Until step by step, things started to take shape. I want to especially thank Gamila, Jewel and Andre Mistier for their continued love and support.

WWD: Now that it’s done, what’s next?

I definitely need a break. I will be traveling until April but in the meantime, I’m preparing the remix edition of my album with great remixers such as Armen Miran, Julian Wassermann, Miyagi, Th Moy, Baile, Matan Caspi and many more. This year, my idea was to skip the Berlin Winter but I will spend a few weeks in North America, so I suppose I won’t skip all of Winter.

WWD: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your followers don’t know.

Maybe not so much a fact but definitely something funny. I was producing the track Utopia with Terry Grant and in his original recordings, the word Utopia was said so many times. I was so exhausted hearing that word and when I went home, I started to scream and sing Utopia while taking a shower. My girlfriend was so shocked and started recording a video of me singing very loudly – Utopiaaaaa .. maybe one day I will share it 😂
