Martin Roth steals the spotlight this week with the delivery a soothing vocal weapon on remix duty for HOKI.

Montreal indie electronic duo HOKI had a breakout year in 2019, which saw the release of their debut album ‘Strangest Of Us All’. The pairing, which fuses the talents of producer Varti Deuchoghlian and Australian vocalist Brent McCormick, has fast garnered a reputation for crafting raw ballads with a daunting vulnerability. 

‘King Of Hearts’ is their debut EP. It comes in the form of two sumptuous original tracks. It is led by the eery, emotive title track, which captures the essence of HOKI in a blend of mesmerising atmosphere, graceful melodies and touching vocals. ‘Eve’ takes a different path albeit similarly captivating. Floating on vibrant kick-drum, the track pairs a charming vocal line with deft atmospheric touches and radiant melodies. 

Joining the Canadian duo on remix duty are an illustrious pairing in Berlin-based Roth and Ingolstadt’s Koelle. Martin Roth puts his fine touch to ‘King Of Hearts’, rendering a powerful rolling interpretation that combines the entrancing emotion of the tantalising vocals with a lush groove.
