After a successful 2019 of being crowned Best Afro House DJ 2019 by the DJ Awards Ibiza, his album Indigo Child reaching platinum status and a total of 36,5 million streams, Da Capo is set for new heights as an independent artist under his recently formed record label Genesys. His upcoming EP also titled Genesys is now available on all music platforms.
At his former record label Soulistic Music its business as usual as they continue to release all Black Coffee music, while Da Capo is serviced by Soulistic Agency a talent and events management agency, also a Black Coffee owned company. The name Genesys signifies a new beginning in Da Capo’s career; the title of his new 7 tracks EP and the name of his record label. This EP features artist’s such as pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, Marissa Guzman, and Batundi. Fans can expect club bangers such ‘Thin Cali clouds’ and ‘Yehla Moya’ which they’ve heard in his performances in the past months.
Da Capo’s real name is Nicodimus Sekheta Mogashoa, born and raised in Seshego, Limpopo. He describes his undeniable talent for music as a God given talent that comes to him as a 6th sense. The 29 year old record producer and DJ is celebrated a legend in the house music fraternity around the world for his versatile skill to produce & remix house music by the likes of Nick Holder & Black Coffee.
The EP opens up with ‘Thin Cali Cloud’, a chunky, bass driven house track with lush pads that bring a dark vibe. ‘Ujir’ then brings an afro vibe filled with soul, upbeat kicks and lively percussion next to tribal chanting. ‘Sweet Dreams’ is layered with whining string sounds and clacking hits over a meandering, hypnotic beat then ‘Moyo Wangu’ gets you in a trance with its lush sunset chords and angelic vocals layered over exotic house grooves.
‘Dance Away The Pain’ is a darker, more menacing late night track to carry you into the night and ‘Yehla Moya’ (Da Capo & Nduduzo Makhathini Remix) then pumps a driving groove with spiritual vocals ringing out up top and taking you on a real world adventure. Last of all ‘Orion’s Belt’ is another rolling and hypnotic tune with dreamy chords draped over rolling grooves.
