Hailing from Dundee, DJ & producer AmyElle returns with her highly anticipated new release ‘Need You Now’. AmyElle has gone from strength to strength with the commercial success of recent releases ‘Feel The Heat’ and ‘Push it’, collectively amassing over 5 million streams, and has now gone onto landing a coveted spot as one of the first (and only female) artists on Spotify’s new DJ Mix series.
WWD: Hi AmyElle, first off how have you been doing?
Helloo! I’m doing really well thanks. Busy playing my first shows, writing a tonne of music and meeting loads of amazing people along the way.
WWD: It has been recently announced that you’ll be the first female artist on Spotify’s new DJ Mix series. Congratulations! How does that feel and what does it mean to you?
I was really proud as I’m sure all the other djs were too, but the most important part for me is the part where other females see this and get inspired.
WWD: What would your advice be to aspiring female producers and DJ’s?
Just go for it! Don’t be afraid to get stuck in and believe in yourself/stand up for yourself. I’m often the only female in the room and it can be intimidating sometimes, but just own it. Get connected with other females and enjoy the process. It’s so special when I get told that I’ve encouraged people to buy a pair of decks or just that I’ve given them the confidence, and don’t get me wrong, males need this too but from my experience I would have loved more female representation when I was getting into the scene.
WWD: We’ve been loving your recent releases! How did your new single ‘Need You Now’ come about and what was your inspiration for it?
All my releases have been very club driven records so with Need You Now I wanted to make more of an emotional track that could tug on the heart strings. The song is about appreciating the important things in life.. family, close friends, places etc. I want whoever is listening to pause from their busy life and appreciate these things. I’m also a sucker for some orchestral strings!
WWD: You’re currently on tour at the moment, how’s that been so far?
So special.. I can’t really believe that some of my first shows have been with Elrow and at Warehouse Project.. the buzz I get is insane and it’s great to meet other artists along the way.
WWD: Life on the road, especially as a DJ can be difficult, what are some practices you apply to stay healthy on the road?
You tell me.. Hahah. I’m busy with shows but not crazy busy yet so come back to me on this one..
WWD: In one sentence, how would you summarize your 2021?
A crazy whirlwind of events!
WWD: 2022 is just round the corner, what are your plans for next year and what can your fans expect?
There are some shows I can’t announce just yet that are big bucket list moments for me. I’d also like to plan a tour in America and party more with the crazy Scottish crowds!! In terms of music, I’m sitting on some releases I’m really happy with and I hope you bloody love it!
WWD: Lastly, what other up-and-coming artists are you enjoying listening to and seeing grow at the moment?
One of my favourite things to do is to support other up and coming artists and I’m lucky enough to support them on radio so I’m spinning a lot of the records and producers I love on my Kiss Fresh show every Sunday 7-9pm. To mention a few off the top of my head, I’m loving, Mac & Ward, Model Man, Yeadons stuff right now and Sarah Story and Jaguar are killing it with supporting great artists live and on their radio shows.
