For Italian producer duo Glowal, these past few years have all revolved around stepping out of comfort zones and trying out new things. This creative freedom has now culminated in the release of Glowal’s first ever artist album: ‘Trigger Your Sense’. “Lazarus” is their focus track, its melodies come from a mixture of emotions between the struggles they experienced these past years and the strong hope for better days moving forward.
You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Lazarus’ exclusively on When We Dip while reading the cool interview we had with the guys. Enjoy!
WWD: Hi Fabio and Alessandro, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! Before we chat about the present, let’s start off by digging into your histories a bit. What drew you guys to the electronic music scene and who were some of the first dance music artists you ever listened to?
Glowal – Hi, our pleasure! For both of us the introduction to electronic music came by the influence of our brothers. Alessandro’s brother was an event organizer while Fabio’s brother was an amateur DJ with a good collection of records. Moby, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Robert Miles, Carl Craig, and many more had a big influence on us.
WWD: Was there a specific moment the both of you realized you wanted to pursue a career in music? What led to the formation of Glowal?
Glowal – Not exactly a specific moment, it’s more about knowing from the inside that we wanted to do this in life. Glowal started back in 2017, a few years after we got in touch and got to know each other for the first time through the music world. We both had other projects before but after establishing mutual trust, sharing ideological and artistic affinities we realized to be both at a point where we wanted and needed to start with something fresh and new and decided to join forces to create our new project.
WWD: Congratulations on the release of your first ever artist album ‘Trigger Your Sense’! Can you speak a little bit about the initial inspiration for this album and what the production process was like?
Glowal – In the beginning there wasn’t the real idea of making an album, some ideas were put together separately but 90% of the demos that led us to the album came out of a 15 days studio session we did between December 2020 to January 2021. It was a very full immersive session where we also spent New Years Eve inside the studio while doing music and welcoming the new year with a lot of hope for the future. Then Sebastien(Agoria) introduced us to the idea of releasing an album and when we sent him these demos the LP started to take shape.
WWD: Is there one specific track that really stands out to you and why?
Glowal – Every track Is our little child so we prefer to not choose only one:)
WWD: What attached you to Agoria’s label Sapiens as a label partner for your music?
Glowal – Our collaboration with Sebastien started when he sent us a message asking for a remix of his “Call Of The Wild” track from his own album. After that we got in touch more and more and decided to send him our demos for a release on Sapiens, so the “Roda EP” came out and now our debut album.
WWD: Have you received feedback from other artists on the album tracks and do you often find it helpful to test your music with other artists before it gets released?
Glowal – Yes we are receiving a lot of love from other artists on the album tracks and we are very happy about that! Of course it’s always very helpful to be able to test the tracks before releasing, sometimes while testing you truly understand if it needs some more tweaks or some arrangement adjustments that could really make the difference.
WWD: During the pandemic in 2021, you started your own artist label, Sementa. What was the idea behind creating this label?
Glowal – We were thinking about setting up our own playground since day 1 and the pandemic period gave us the time to think deeply about It and finally set it up. Basically it’s conceived like a platform of free expression. For the moment we have mostly released our own music but we are open to other artists as well. We don’t wanna have the pressure to release every month, we will let It grow very naturally.
WWD: When you dive into a new production, do you like to form a game plan upfront or do you let the process happen organically? What does your studio process look like for a regular session in the Glowal studio?
Glowal – Definitely prefer to let things happen naturally, usually it’s very important to build the core of the track with all the elements and after that dive into the arrangement and details while already working on the mixdown.
WWD: Looking to the future, how would you like to see yourself grow as an act? Any significant goals you are currently striving towards?
Glowal – Generally bring our music to a wider audience being able to take our sound and our label Sementa to the next level.
WWD: If you could go back to the very first gig you ever played and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Glowal – Do what you feel and have fun together with the dancefloor.
WWD: Finally, who are some artists that you’re currently listening to that you think we should keep an eye out for?
Glowal – We like what Collè, Ivan Masa, Adam Ten are doing and we will release the first EP from a new talented artist from Buenos Aires on Sementa, his name is Ihpek, keep an eye out!
