Swiss-French producer Deer Jade’s strikingly sincere yet catchy sound has brought her upcoming gigs at Watergate, fabric, Extrema Outdoor, Fusion Festival, Tomorrowland, and more. Bringing unparalleled energy and presence to the stage in her sets, this summer she reprises her successful residency at ‘Storytellers’ (Cova Santa Ibiza). Release-wise, the Stil vor Talent regular has a new EP dropping on The Gardens of Babylon.
‘Intergalactic Tango’ introduces a Latin energy to Jade’s infusion of spirituality, with tinkling melodies and mysterious whispered messages, with a strong beat and emotive strings and keyboards to keep you both on the earth and beyond it. ‘I like to create a diverse journey mixing elements from different times and cultures.’
Jade, a keen kundalini yoga practitioner, sees music as a cosmic connector, enabling us to explore unexpected dimensions. A nomadic existence round the world since age 16 and her eclectic music education due to her parents combine with her limitless passion for learning.
‘Production is like reading the most fun and playful book ever, which you can never finish as there’s always more to learn and discover. Production gives us truly infinite creative possibilities.’ – Deer Jade
You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Intergalactic Tango’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
WWD: Hey Jade, thanks for speaking with us! Congrats on your new release on The Gardens of Babylon alongside Vander and Mâhfoud, can you tell us the story behind this release?
Hey guys, thank you so much for having me! Intergalactic Tango was a big pleasure to make! Both Vander and Mâhfoud are great friends since many years as we are with the same agency. We spontaneously started the project in Vander’s studio while I was in Amsterdam, played around and recorded my vocals. Then Mahfoud passed by to say hi for a bit and improvised some beautiful chords and melodies on the track. Everything flowed nicely, the track came together in a very beautiful way!
When we had to pick two remixers I instantly thought of Chambord and Pandhora, two incredibly talented duos and also friends, luckily they jumped on board right away and delivered two fantastic tracks that I also can’t get enough of playing! 🙂
WWD: Where have you been playing the new track/s recently, any special moments on the dancefloor you can share with us?
For sure, honestly I’m very critical about my own work and so I don’t play my own tracks so often. But Intergalactic Tango is for sure the one I’ve played most and most enjoy playing! I was always astonished how it seems to touch everybody, in so many different countries and different kind of parties around the world. Every time I was playing it was an extra special moment! It’s perfect to get the people moving and excited 🙂 Now very happy to also have these two excellent remixes to keep on spreading the Intergalactic Tango love!
WWD: Your music is always so uplifting. Can you tell us a little about how you produce, and how you first start to put a track together?
Uplifting is indeed what I’m aiming for the most, thank you for feeling it! It all starts with flash of ideas passing through my mind in any kind of situations, which I all write down. As soon as I sit in my studio I think of which theme I want to explore, or what intention I have for the music, gaming playing around on the piano until I find a catchy melody. I start putting together all the main elements of a track in ableton, always looking for fresh and interesting sounds. I like to never stick to a recipe so searching for how to do things differently, trying new ways to approach things, tweaking knobs infinitely.. until the magic happens! Producing honestly also means going through phases of big self doubt, blank page, fear to not be enough… Being able to look pass it, still keeping faith in music no matter what, is as challenging as it is rewarding! It’s all about having fun after all!! 🙂
WWD: When you first started producing music, what was your aim with it? What did you want to achieve? And do you feel like you are successful in doing that so far?
Making music to me has always been about elevating emotions, feelings, opening our hearts to reach new depths within ourselves… Music has a divine purpose, it has the power to transcend us, to connect us beyond imagination! I wish that through sharing my sound, my vibrations with the universe I can convey and reflect its universal message of unconditional love 🙂 So I’m definitely feeling like I’ve barely scratched the surface with everything that’s possible to do! To infinity and beyond!!
WWD: You grew up with an eclectic and diverse musical taste due to your upbringing – tell us a bit about your musical background and what influenced you – do you find that those influences still play into the music you make and play today?
My parents are fantastic music diggers so I was lucky enough to grow up with always nice music playing in the house. All kinds of genre, from all moments in time. My dad has this gigantic library of CDs super well classified that I was mesmerized by. I started to build my own music library from a very young age, and was always playing music at parties with my friends growing up, but never imagined one second I would ever do this professionally.
For sure all these years had a huge influence on the music I play today, opening the horizon to look for as many different types of music as possible, offer a sonic landscape as rich as possible. There’s so many old classics I used to listen to that I’m dying to make edits of and play! Excited to bring them all back! 🙂
WWD: Your sets are always something of a journey, and there is a spiritual element there too. Is spirituality something that you practice daily? If so, how?
What is it to be spiritual if we are all equally made of spirit? 🙂 What is sure is that the more I got into music the more life took me on that “spiritual journey”, walking along this magical bumpy yet exhilarating path, on our way back home.
I love to practice yoga kundalini as much as possible, and since my first 10 days silent retreat in October I’ve been meditating nearly every single day for at least 15/30 min every morning and evening. It has changed my life in such beautiful ways that I can only strongly recommend it to anybody, and to really not give up when it’s difficult. Taking distance from our mind realizing it is not us is the most freeing thing we can do, the best gift we can give to ourselves. There are so many incredibly beautiful life mysteries to uncover, that the question is, how much bliss do we want to experience in this life and are we willing to work on ourselves for it? 🙂 I hope music can guide us on this thrilling mystical journey!
WWD: What’s next on the horizon for you? Releases, shows…
I’m incredibly excited for all these upcoming months as I’ll be playing at some of my dreams festivals like Fusion, The Monastery, Calvi On The Rocks, We Can Dance, Marvellous Island, Pleinvrees, Voodoo.. clubs like Pacha in Ibiza, Fabric in London, Kater Blau in Berlin… as well as incredible gatherings like Off Sonar Barcelona for Woomoon, Storytellers/Day trip in Ibiza as part of my residency… Tours in Australia, Asia and Central/South America are also on the horizon towards the end of the year. I’ve got a remix coming out on June 3rd on Gouranga music, for Glauco Di Mambro with Isi Audi, exciting! On resting days I will be fully focusing on producing fresh tracks and also working on interesting projects around sustainability and arts, stay tuned! Can’t wait to be dancing together somewhere around the world very soon!!! Much love!
