Belgian producer/DJ Lost Desert has been making waves in the organic house scene since his powerful debut in 2016. After being discovered by All Day I Dream founder Lee Burridge, the two went on to frequently collaborate, most recently releasing their Les Voyeurs De La Nuit EP in July.

Continuing on to become a staple of the All Day I Dream family and found his own label Souksonic in 2019, Lost Desert has established himself as a powerplayer in the underground scene.

We caught up with Lost Desert ahead of the upcoming All Day I Dream of Montreal Magic and All Day I Dream of Endless Summer events to talk about his label, creative process, and signature sound.

WWD: Thanks for speaking with us! Where are you in the world and what are you up to?

Hi, thanks for having me.

WWD: What are your earliest memories of electronic music?

Oh that’s been a long time, I think it must have been “I feel love” by Donna Summer, produced by Giorgio Moroder, or Wally Badarou with his album called Echoes. I still love them and have them on vinyl.

WWD: What inspired you to found your own label, Souksonic?

Well there are many producers who want to sign their music to All Day I Dream, but there is no [email protected] haha, so they send it to me. I do like listening and guiding young producers if the idea is there and good. I often help them with mix and mastering, also I love making music so I needed an extra outlet for tracks like “Bloesem” or “Firedance” at that time, so I started Souksonic.

WWD: How would you describe your signature sound?

Oh that’s a hard one, in my mind it’s still deep house only with more melodic ingredients, my signature might be that i follow my heart not the charts. And of course being a part of All Day I Dream guided me in a specific mood.

WWD: You recently collaborated with Lee Burridge on the Les Voyeurs De La Nuit EP-can you walk us through your creative process in the studio?

Well I get up in the morning, make coffee and breakfast, then walk up to my little home studio and start up. I usually start with the drums on Maschien, once I have a groove I like I can start thinking what synth I’m going to try that day, it can be Moog or one of my Vintage Roland collection to get some music on it. For this EP I wanted it to be a little different, mainly in tempo & structure, less long breaks with strings or pads. For me the fun thing about writing music is that you never know what the day will bring, it’s always a new journey. Then after writing the ideas (mostly in a day or night) i present them to Lee and we finish the ones he likes, this production part is the hardest and can take some time… like v10 might be the one haha

WWD: You will also be performing at All Day I Dream Of Montreal Magic and All Day I Dream Of Endless Summer this weekend, what do you think makes All Day I Dream events so special?

Oh everything about it is special, from the first one I played I was in love, the people that attend ADID shows, the lineups, the decor, and the music we can play make it unique. There is something about day parties that make it special and more fun than black tshirts and dark rooms, been there, done that.

WWD: Are there any other upcoming projects or shows we should have on our radar?

Oh yeah there is ! Lock in the date for ADID festival nr2 next year, the first one was magic ! So see you all there ! Hope to daydream with you soon, hugs Patrick
