We had the chance to speak with DJ Dove about the album. Enjoy!
WWD: Hello DJ Dove, For our readers that don’t know you yet, tell us a bit about you…
My name is DJ Dove aka Barbarito Capote. I was born originally in New York City and then raised in Hoboken, New Jersey. I come from Cuban parents, they came to the United States in 1971. I’m of American & Cuban descent.
WWD: Who & what inspired your first album ‘Truth be Told’?
I was inspired to do this album by some factors. The factors were watching the great ones creating an album such as Armand Van Helden, Daft Punk, and Basement Jaxx the success of their albums although the industry is different now compared to the era they achieved those goals. They just left such a legacy of timeless music which is what I want to achieve myself for my album. Listening to those albums were so inspiring and such pure genius that I desired having the same effect once I fully committed doing the album.
WWD: Why did you decide to finally produce your album after many years of being in the industry?
For many years I was unsure whether to do an album despite my tons of experience working for labels such as Catch 22 Recordings (owned by DJ Disciple) and Deep Root Records (owned by Francis Mercier). Then I had a conversation with Erick Morillo a few days before his passing and he couldn’t have been anymore supportive and influential as he said I totally have what it takes when it comes to knowledge of music as well as the business savvy to achieve success. Although he also expressed it wasn’t going to be an easy task starting out, I would excel as time passes and consistency & quality of music will both be vital to how successful the label will become.
WWD: What was your favorite track produced on the album?
I have a few actually although to be honest I love them all hahaha. 1st would be “Shackle Me Free” with Zumba recording artist from Italy Francesca Maria. The 2nd being my solo production entitled “Freaks On The Floor”. Lastly, another collaboration done with Moroccan DJ/Producer Walid Martinez and singer/songwriter & recording artist from South Africa Rishi Love called “Keep Me Near”. All of tracks which are 21 tracks to be exact, each have their own interpretation, energy, and diversification which makes me proud achieving this special goal.
DJ Dove’s album “Truth Be Told” is OUT NOW on his label Grind City Recordings exclusively at Traxsource, Spotify and other digital download & streaming platforms.
