UK producer Third Son is one of the hottest talents to emerge from the underground in recent months, his distinct blend of Deep and Tech already winning him slots on respected labels such as Noir Music, Sincopat, Material and most recently Underground Audio, where he’s lined up a stellar two track EP entitled ‘Exit Music’ (Check it out below!). With a big future clearly ahead of him, we’re delighted to have him step into the podcast hot-seat. Get set for a groovin’ hour of deep, dark Tech House and enjoy our exclusive interview below!
WWD : It’s a bit of a tradition for us to start off at the very beginning. So in keeping with that, how did you get involved in djing and production?
TS : I’ve always been involved in music, played a lot of traditional instruments when I was younger and was in bands during my teens. I really got into electronic music and djing whilst at university – when I started making more music than studying it was the obvious move for me.
WWD : Tell us about the new ep on Underground Audio, we’re big fans! Where did you put in all the hard work? Has it been in the pipeline long?
TS : I wanted to focus on some different rhythmic ideas and this EP sprung up out of that. Once the ideas were down the writing process was pretty quick.
WWD : Can you give us an insight in to your production set-up?
TS : I mainly enjoy writing music in the dark forest of Azaroth when I have the chance to get out there, but in the colder months I tend to write from the depths of my basement – mainly in the box but use a few midi instruments, mics etc. I spend most of my money on monitoring.
WWD : The summer has come and gone. What’s been the highlight for you?
TS : I have to say that Richie Hawtin was looking great on my computer screen.
WWD : One event you’d love to play in 2015?
TS : Dekmental looks …mental.
WWD Top three tracks right now?
TS : Sven Tasnadi – On Your Mind (Marco Faraone Remix)
Darlyn Vlys, Thomas Gandey – Hero
Barber, DAF – Night’Son
WWD : Lastly, what can we expect from Third Son in the coming months? more new music? maybe a trip to Dublin?
TS : A LOT of new music. And is that an invite…?
