Spaniard Marc Dosem has cemented his place in recent times as one of the most well respected house & tech spinners out there. The talented Girona man powered on from a killer first album, Origins, on Christian Smith’s Tronic imprint, knocking it out of the park it with a steady stream of whopper originals and stellar remixes, a release schedule which saw him feature on the likes of Suara, Great Stuff & Halocyan Records in the lead up to his second LP.  September saw the producer team up once more with Coyu and the Suara family as his highly anticipated release City Cuts was finally presented to the public and my word it was worth the wait! 11 diverse, urban tech house records all with the signature Dosem touch. Such was our love for the release, we couldn’t resist catching up with the main man to get the lowdown. It’s all below enjoy!

WWD : Hi Marc, thanks for taking the time to chat! ‘City Cuts’ follows on from previous successes of ‘Parallel’ and ‘Origin’.  The new LP has more of a tech house feel to it, straying from the direct techno of “Origin’ on Tronic. Can you tell us a little bit about what you wanted to achieve with this release and what inspired it?

Dosem : In my sets I put all kinds of music and I wanted to show another side. Actually if you listen my music years ago and the kind I now do, all retain the same core, the same concept. I like the melodies and powerful rhythms. But maybe I’ve always been known more for Techno base concept, much stronger, which only represents a part of my production. I felt inspired to make something much more House oriented, mixing elements from funk, urban sounds…

WWD : You’ve gone with Suara for the release, a label you feature on quite often.  How has your relationship developed with the label and why do you find it such a suitable home for yourself and your music?

I have a good friendship with Coyu and his team, which are very professional. In Suara, I found the place to get this album because it is a very eclectic label, something that has much to see with my music. On the other hand, they are in an excellent moment.

Can you give us a brief insight into the production process behind the LP? How long did it take to put the 11 tracks together?

I began in 2012, just after finishing my album “Origin” for Tronic. Originally, they just had some ideas, and enclosedly sketches in a paperwriting titles and phrases. I am in the habit of doing it before beginning a project … try to create the concept of different forms and to organize my mind. Then when I began with the Tour, I already generated the first ideas of sounds and gave form to the sound base of the album. Later I took all these ideas to the studio to refine them.

WWD : Which track on the release has been the biggest hitter of the summer season and where, venue wise, has it gone off?

There are several themes that have worked very well on the dance floor, especially “Loft Dancers” and “City Pulse”. The first I remember in Loveland Amsterdam reaction was fantastic. The same with the second, I put it several times in Blue Marlin Ibiza.

WWD : Having worked an enormous number of big labels and having remixed a huge amount of the underground’s stars, how do you keep things fresh and continue motivating yourself?

Because I love music, I love my job and I’m always finding new creative challenges where I can get new inspiration.

WWD : Now that the release has been finalized, what’s next for Dosem? Can we expect a busy touring schedule?

Yes, we are preparing a tour around diferent countries such as Europe, Asia and America. Also, new remixes will come for Umek, Mark Fanciulli, Robert Babicz, Chus & Ceballos, Sasse…
