Blessed with a keen ear for music and a sharp sense of sound, Idan Perez was born and raised in the bustling, cultural hub of Tel Aviv. With a hunger and passion for the pulse of the local electronic music scene, it wasn’t long before a young and impassioned Perez started DJing and adopted the stage name PEREZO.
With drive and talent comes recognition, and armed with both traits PEREZO quickly rose to popularity both locally and internationally; performing at well established large scale parties including Rumours, Marco Carola, Hashmaliko and Flying Circus.
In 2020, Perez founded ‘One Of Us’, a community of like-minded artists that have gone on to organise high quality music festivals in Israel. Since then, the brand has grown to produce successful events in international party locations including Costa Rica and Mykonos.
With a diverse sonic palette ranging from Indie, Electronic, Disco and everything in between, PEREZO always commands control of the dance floor, as he continues on his mission to conquer the hearts and minds of ravers all around the world. We caught up with the man himself to find out more.
WWD: Hi Idan, and welcome to When We Dip. So lovely to have you with us for the first time. How are you?
I’m perfectly fine, thank you very much for inviting me to be interviewed at your place. I’m happy to be here
WWD: Can’t quite believe it, but we’re moving towards the end of another year. How has 2023 been for you so far? Any highlights?
This year was exceptional for me, it has been a very busy year so far with gigs at many amazing different places around the world including New York, Mykonos, Costa Rica, Bodrum, Morocco and more. I’ve also been very busy in the studio with the creation of new music that is going to be released in 2024.
WWD: Starting at the beginning, can you tell us how you met and how you got into music?
I was a DJ first, and then I became a musician once I started to understand music more deeply. I learned to play piano which has been very helpful in the and the whole world of synthesisers and harmony. I learn something new every day.
WWD: How would you best describe your sound those who may not be familiar?
My sound is between disco and indie dance. It’s very happy music aimed at the dance floor
WWD: Who or what were your biggest musical inspirations growing up?
My biggest inspirations are music Mark Knight, Dennis Ferrer and many others.
WWD: We understand you have a new release coming up in December. Can you talk to us about the record, and what we can expect?
Yes I have an EP release in December on Wyldcard Records which I’m super excited about. Then in April I have a release on Blue Shadow records. These two mini-albums contain a whole load of music with new sounds that I’ve been playing for six months in clubs and festivals. I hope people will really love them both.
WWD: What label will it be released on, and how did you connect with them?
It’ll be released on Wyldcard Records. I sent them an email and they just loved it. There are many other labels who were interested, but I chose to sign to Wyldcard because it feels most true to my music and sound.
WWD: What do you like to do in your spare time when you’re not touring the world or making music?
Being with my family mostly is what fills me up the most and gives me strength. I don’t see them much at all because of my performances around the world, so family time is very special to me.
WWD: Do you have any other releases or tours planned in the coming months?
I have Zanzibar this November, December in Costa Rica and Tulum, then some dates in America, including Miami and New York. After that I’ll head to France for a gig in Paris.
WWD: Any final words for our When We Dip readers?
Thank you to everyone who has read my article so far. I will continue to work hard in the studio and try to continue to bringing my sound and colour to dance floors around the world, and make you happy always! Yours PEREZO
