Irish producer Kamorah is the latest signing on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound imprint. The rising artist, who has already released on the likes of Laguna, New Violence and Zingiber Audio Digital, has been a stalwart in Dublin’s bubbling music scene for some time now. We caught up with him this week to get the lowdown on the release, thoughts on his home city and a selection of the top new tracks he’s feeling right now. It’s all below, enjoy!
WWD: Can you tell us more about your new EP ‘All Aboard’. What was the inspiration behind it?
Hey guys, thanks for having me. Great to be back on When We Dip. For this EP I really wanted to bring a vibe has that early tech house foundation but with a modern twist and I think i’ve achieved that.
All 3 tracks are distinct and serve a different purpose on the dance floor. All Aboard is stripped back but brings the energy with catchy female vocals throughout, Don’t Deny It brings the groove with different old school chords playing off each other while Call Me is a 90s inspired track and will bring that peak time energy!
WWD: How did you end up signing the EP to Knee Deep In Sound?
I played with Daley (Hot Since 82) a couple of times throughout the years in Dublin so had his contact details. Once I had 5 tracks ready which I felt were good enough for the label I sent them on. I was delighted when he told me that he wanted to take 3 of them for an EP!
WWD: You’ve been a regular on the Dublin music scene for years, how is the scene in Dublin at the moment?
I think its in a really good place, just before Covid it was becoming a bit worrying as a lot of the main clubs were being sold and renovated into hotels around the city.
Right now theres so many amazing clubs and promoters in the city. Index, Here&Now, Pygmallion, Centrepoint, Tepnets & Omni are all throwing big parties nearly every weekend so fairplay to them, I’ve dipped my toe into the promoter world through the events I run with my pals Kaily and Eric Brown, we throw some events under the name Sub Society so I know its not an easy thing to do on a weekly basis.
WWD: Whats your creative process when in the studio?
I work a busy 9-5 job so studio time is limited as a result I always try and hit the studio with an idea in mind, sometimes i’ll see a video on Instagram or hear a track that sparks some ideas.
Usually I’ll start with a kick, drums and bassline, majority of the time i’ll get something down quickly as I want to put most of my thinking into creating a catchy synth or vocal hook thats going to bring the track to life. I’ll usually export a rough loop after a couple of hours then listen back to it the next day while in the car or walking my dog Dodger. Thats when I’ll make the call whether to finish it off or not.
WWD: What advice would you give to producers who are just starting their journey?
My advice would be to have patience, your first couple of tracks aren’t going to be amazing the key is to listen and identify where the improvement needs to be made so the next time your in the studio that element is a focus point.
I also think its so important to play your tracks in the club, in the car and in airpods. It will give your ears a fresh perspective of the track.
You can’t go wrong with sequencers, if your not a natural at writing basslines and synth melodies use a sequencer to get an idea going. I use the Audiomodern riffer quite a lot.
WWD: Can you give us 3 tracks that your feeling right now?
I just received a copy of the new Richy Ahmed & Jansons LoveHrtz track “Waiting For Your Love”, its a belter!
Im giving away one of my secret weapons here but Paul Rayner – Got To Get Up released in 1994 is a track which I’ve been playing a lot over the last few months and it goes off everytime!
The new Rooleh EP on Cécille Records is so good, “From a distance” is my favourite on the EP.
WWD: What do the next few months look like for you?
Its looking good, after the Knee Deep In Sound EP I’m releasing on Josh Butler’s label Origins Rcrds so thats another big milestone for me. I’m also finalising another EP with a big label so hopefully we can get that confirmed soon, music aside I’m getting married at the end of March then heading to Bali for a couple of weeks so it will be great to switch off and recharge the batteries.
