HG’s Tracks of 2014

3 January 2015

2014 was a massive year for quality. Many producers at the top of the game across all genres and i’ve put together a short list of my top tracks. Was hard to narrow it down but I ended up with 12. There was some exclusions made but I’ve tried to fill the whole spectrum from experimental electronic through to the dingers everyone loves to come across at 3 in the morning. Here’s to more of the same in 2015!

Leon Vynehall – It’s Just House (Of Dupree)

An absolute peach from the man which featured on his mini LP ‘Music For The Uninvited’. House sound at it’s finest.

Nick Dow – Leap

Big fan of Nicks. He always churns out the quality and this rather experimental electronic number really hits the spot.

Rashid Ajami – Darya (Affkt Remix)

Big remix of an already tasty original. For me the pinnacle of a fine year for Affkt. Deep track.

Christian Löffler -All Comes feat. Gry (Mind Against Remix)

Has it all. Bassline, melodies, progression, vocals. Top track.

Super Flu – Jo Gurt (Stephan Bodzin Remix)

Mr. Bodzin was on point in 2014, producing the emotional sounds such as Kerberos with Marc Romboy, but he really hit the nail on the head with this euphoric track. Featured it when I first heard it, and it still sounds as good.

Recondite  – Fiery

Recondite had a standout 2014. Top productions, with 2 albums released and a busy schedule. Any time he wasn’t playing live, his sounds were ringing out in Dj sets. No production stood out for me as much as Fiery. I caught him in Paris this year and he had the crowd in the palm of his hands with this atmospheric track. Plus, it sounded unreal when Hawtin banged it out on the Amnesia Terrace!

Traumer – Cyclo

2014 was a year of huge successes, notably ‘Hoodlum’, but this was the one for me. Huge.

Dubspeeka – Fargo

Came out of 2014 a bigger Dubspeeka fan than I was going in. A string of big productions the reason behind that. Fargo being the pick of the bunch. Raw track. Big.

Jel Ford – Grand Union

Heard this opening the Drumcode A Sides Volume II Part 2 compilation and grabbed it straight away. An extremely funky techno track from Adam Beyer’s manager Jel Ford, who thankfully decided to put back on his production boots in 2014. Hearing Beyer mixing this one in on the Amnesia main room system a highlight to remember.

Hinz & Ruhmhardt – Doch

One of the most played tracks this season in Ibiza but rightly so. When you walk from Capriaiti in Amnesia main room to Pan – Pot on the terrace and you hear them both banging out Doch simultaneously, you know it’s a winner. Big crowd pleaser and a massive signing for Pan-Pot’s top new label Second State. *Side note : Stephan Hinz – ‘Ignite’ is a quality follow up

Patrick Siech & Petter B – Blaces

Petter B impressed for me big time in 2014 and this belter also featured on the Drumcode A Sides Compilation. The collab with Patrick Siech was on Part I and it’s a thumper. Peak time dinger.

WhoMadeWho – Heads Above (Maceo Plex Remix)

Arguably the pick of the bunch for me. The sheer intensity of that bassline coupled with the lovely vocal breakdown made it the track of the summer for me. Having heard it feature in many Enter. sets, have found it hard to find better since.
