Multi-platinum/gold record alums Tinlicker give more of a good thing after the acclaimed release of the Dutch duo’s third album, ‘Cold Enough For Snow’ earlier this year. Having already snagged starry collabs for the LP, now they’ve enlisted remixing talent to produce the ‘Cold Enough For Snow Remixed’ 6-track EP, out on December 13th.
Already released as singles are Chris Liebing’s rework of ‘Nowhere To Go’ feat. Brian Molko, with the German techno veteran giving a harder, faster, even threatening edge to the trancey original and Molko’s bittersweet voice, and Rival Consoles’ shoegaze/ambient slant on the emotive instrumental ‘Revolution’ with added layering and chopped melodies.
EP exclusive tracks: UK’s UNKLE brings his trip hop/alt rock chops to the uplifting, lyrical ‘Glasshouse’ feat Julia Church, with its fast breaksy beats, melodic piano arps and Church’s yearning, heart-stirring yet edgy voice. He adds a more assertive beat with a murmur in it, echoing and spacey, the vocal still showcased – the music sings with her, luminous and emotive.
Multi-instrumentalist/DJ/producer, UK’s Alex Banks revels in jungle, broken beat, dubstep, techno FX, and emotive synth. He remixes the other Julia Church-adorned track ‘Slipstream’, so good he reworks it twice. For the ‘Hypnotic’ Remix, Banks deploys rippling arps woven around a faster, breaks-influenced beat with more driving complex percussion, plangent piano melodies, and emotional synth chords, hypnotic like brain waves, the voice more fragmented, less of a ‘song’, more part of the insistent beat. The ‘Broken Beat Remix’ adds a vocal wall of soft sound, with suitably broken jazzy percussion and piano chords, staggered and arrhythmical to catch the ear contrasting with Church’s lyrics and delivery. Tinlicker’s own club remix of ‘Slipstream’ makes it three times a charm.
Tinlicker have had quite a year, with an extensive, prestigious European album tour, the success of ‘Cold Enough For Snow’ inc. Mixmag, Stereogum, DJ Mag, BBC, Beat (DE), Brooklyn Vegan and now some tasty remixes to round it off.
You can now listen to the full premiere of UNKLE’s ‘Glasshouse’ Reconstruction, exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
