When We Dip: Alonz flips Ramyen for Mellow Records launch

Mellow Records makes its debut with the ‘Our Story EP’ from label founder Ramyen, a Parisian producer whose feel for the dancefloor has earned him a home on respected imprints such as Rose Avenue and Knee Deep In Sound. The new label is an extension of the Mellow universe he has shaped over the past few years, a platform built to share his honest musical vision while spotlighting a new generation of French talent. As the artist puts it, Mellow Records is rooted in the energy of the dancefloor, the atmosphere of the parties and the broader world surrounding Mellow, with a sound he calls sexy house: groove, emotion, energy and attitude. Each release is meant to play a specific role, contributing to a wider coherent direction the way tracks do inside a great DJ set.

The original ‘Our Story’ is chunky and deep, built on a rolling bassline and a timeless vocal that capture exactly what makes the house music community feel like home. Subtle synths add a forward leaning shimmer while the groove nods to early house anthems on the likes of Subliminal Sessions. For the remix duty, Ramyen calls in Alonz, a new school producer who has been making waves on imprints such as Collecting Dots. His rework is funky and playful, bumping the beats and reshaping the bass into something more acrobatic while the original vocal gets perfectly chopped and screwed. It is the kind of remix made to lift a room, and the ideal way to launch the next chapter of Mellow.
