Brazilian DJ and producer Mochakk continues his run of standout reworks with a bold new single release, reimagining a certified classic with his upcoming official remix of Nina Simone’s ‘See-Line Woman’ on Verve Records. Reworking one of Simone’s biggest and most enduring songs, Mochakk injects it with his signature edge, delivering a timeless crossover track set to be another major milestone in his growing music catalogue.

Originally released in 1964 on the album Broadway-Blues-Ballads, ‘See-Line Woman’ is one of Nina Simone’s most renowned recordings, further immortalized through her emblematic live performances. Now, the ballad is reintroduced for a new generation, as Mochakk applies his touch to create something fresh, dynamic, soulful and distinctly danceable.

Nina Simone’s sound, often described as that of the “high priestess of soul”, has been praised as a deeply emotive fusion of jazz, blues, classical, folk and gospel. Her music carries a rhythmic and spiritual intensity that translates naturally into the language of the dancefloor. That rich musicality, combined with her commanding vocal presence and percussive phrasing, provides fertile ground for reinterpretation. For Mochakk, whose work thrives on recontextualizing classic elements, revisiting a Nina Simone recording is a natural progression, aligning his instinct for groove-driven storytelling with one of the most powerful voices in music history.

Mochakk’s productions have been defined by their eclectic and masterfully crafted rhythms, blending soulful textures with hard-hitting warehouse energy. Influenced by wider influences beyond electronic music, such as hip-hop, disco soul, and funk, he has made a big impact on today’s scene with his recurrent incorporation of his own original vocals into his productions, rapid-fire percussion and unexpected elements into his tracks. Known for his “rollercoaster” DJ sets, his sound is rarely static, built on quick transitions and high-energy rhythms designed to command the dancefloor.
