After two incredibly vibrant debut releases, Hoki present their third offering in the form of Land Of Our Dead. The Montreal-based duo has excited both the dance and indie communities with their unique ability to blur the lines between genres.
The third single from the act’s upcoming album, Strangest Of Us All, displays the range within Hoki’s production style. Land Of Our Dead opens with powerful chords, then a light melodic beat, setting an ambient soundscape for Brent McCormick’s stunning vocal work. The Australian’s words carry the song, creating a soothing atmosphere for emotional reflection. A kick lifts the beat towards the track’s mid point, allowing a light-filled end to a sad, yet hopeful tune.
For the third installment to the Hoki output, they have continued to supplement their original work with a stunning remix. German mastermind Matthias Meyer presents his rework to Land Of Our Dead. Meyer [Watergate, Liebe] is one of dance music’s most prolific producers, with a seasoned ability to alight dance floors with his blend of deep, afro, and house. Paying homage to the true nature of the track, he maintains the melancholic vibe in his arrangement. By extending the intro with a more pronounced melodic beat, he caresses the listener into a groove before bringing in the powerful vocal. The remix pronounces Hoki’s roots in dance music, bringing Land Of Our Dead into dance floor territory.
