Welcome to the inaugural when we dip collection. This is a weekly article where we round up the mixes that we have been listening to throughout the week and want to share with all of you. Mixes and live sets coming from some of our favourite dj’s, producers and noise creators There are no boundaries to what can be included and shared, if we love it we share it. No disk jockey is too big or too small to be included in the mix. So without further delay please enjoy the When We Dip collection I.
Butch at Oasis festival Morocco
First on the list is an hour of Butch playing at oasis festival in wonderful Morocco. Oasis is one of the newer festivals popping up on the scene only in the last few years. This year one of the WWD team was actually down there to report on the festivities which you can check out HERE. We first came across Butch some time in 2015 after his outstanding afterhours mix which showcased how incredibly talented this young artist is. If you want to get a really close view of the Mainz native we would highly recommend his Resident Advisor exchange where he talks about his troubled past and his formation into a dj.
Mr. Tophat 100% vinyl set at DC10
Next up on the list is Mr. Tophat playing an all vinyl set in DC10 in ibiza. I first had the pleasure of experiencing him playing in the infamous panorama bar one Sunday evening shoulder to shoulder with Art Alfie. The twin heads of the Karlvolak label played an assorted mix of the very best house and even had the balls to throw in a sample from Justin Timberlakes ‘Sexy back’ at one stage. An established producer and a free flowing risk taking dj Mr. Tophat is the type of guy you can not sleep on.
Quarion 164 feet field elevation mix
Quarion is next on the block with a mix he recently put together inspired by his neighborhood in Berlin. I first got to hear his music when a friend sent me his track “Turn off the light” a few years back. Ever since then I have been keeping a close eye on this guy and have always enjoyed his work. Sadly I have not had the pleasure of watching him play first hand but if this mix is anything to go by then it is worth the wait.
Mano Le Tough BBC Radio 1 Essential mix
Then we have the most recent of our mixes which comes from hometown hero Mano le Tough. All the way from Greystones in Ireland. Mano just released his first ever BBC Radio 1 essential mix, a massive milestone in any dj’s career. The mix is, as he says himself ” a condensed version of a longer set I might play in a club”. WWD got to see him in his craft at Dekmantel a couple of years ago when he played a stellar boiler room set and he truly is one of the best in the game. You can check out his mix HERE
Dax J Closing awakenings at ADE
One of the hottest names in blisteringly hard techno at the minute Dax J has been a very busy man over the last year. With productions as good as his sets this double threat is skyrocketing in the techno world at the minute and rightly so. Having seen him play a number of times at Corsica studios in London for the infamous Jaded night, Which runs from 5 or 6am until 3pm on a Sunday we can strongly agree that he is a rare talent in his ability to put together a set. The mix that we have chosen from him is from his closing of awakenings at ADE this year at some time after 6am.
