A treat from Toronto for you today. Having witnessed the pair tear up the dance floor of two of Toronto’s well renowned clubs, Guvernment and Footwork back in 2011 we’ve been keeping our eyes on The Junkies ever since.
It’s clear from their very active SoundCloud that the duo have had an increasingly hectic schedule which has seen them bring their sound around the world. This sound tends to vary from minimal, to tech house and techno and The Junkies are experts at constructing the extended sets that the Canadian nightlife is accustomed to. Here’s a perfect example from Stereo Montreal.
After starting off 2013 nicely with a remix of Zoo Brazil’s ‘Cut Boots’ the guys have kicked on from there and really caught our attention with this latest one. Although first appearing on their SoundCloud page back in 2011, the Monkey Biz EP got a release off SCI-TEC records on the 9th of May and it’s been a regular feature here in WWD HQ this past week.
The title track hits you with it’s driving bass before rolling into the sounds of the jungle with it’s snare drums. Although many of you may read this over your morning coffee and think this one’s a bit much, but in the right moment ‘Monkey Biz’ really is a dancefloor destroyer.
Featuring alongside the title track is ‘That’s What It Is’. With it’s rumbling bass, hi-hats and the snare drums, they combine to produce a dark sound you can picture getting played in the depths of a long night of Techno. Accompanying the two tracks are a couple of DJ tools too so get yourselves over to Beatport to check out this exclusive.
